Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne: Its Make or Break in 2022

Jaguars - Madison Williams

The rookie cushion is gone. It's time for Trevor and Travis to perform.

The 2021 season would be best left in the past for Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, the National Championship-winning pair from Clemson. Travis Etienne suffered a foot injury that kept him off the field for the 2021 regular season. While his teammate nursed his foot, Lawrence endured the pains of Urban Myer’s disastrous tenure with the jags. Lawrence ended the season throwing 17 interceptions and only 12 touchdowns. For reference, Lawrence was only picked off 17 times in his 3 seasons with Clemson.

On the flip side, the 2022 season is a huge improvement from last year. For starters, Urban Myer has been replaced with Superbowl-winning coach Doug Peterson. The jags have also added some much-needed help on our pair’s side of the ball. Former Hawkeye Brandon Scherff, a five-time Pro Bowler Guard is going to be a huge help for Jacksonville’s struggling O-line. On top of that, there’s the addition of our Ole Miss duo Laquan Treadwell and Evan Ingram, who adds much-needed depth to Jacksonville’s passing game. With some other additions in the wings, the roster and gameplan should be day and night from the disaster we saw last season. On top of all these roster changes the Clemson duo will get their first chance to pair up on the big stage.

Lawrence and Etienne complement each other well, Etienne, is a back with a unique combination of speed and strength with a lot of potential as a receiver. While, Lawrence, has elite passing ability and an uncanny ability to improvise on the fly. Put the two together and NFL defenses should be up at night thinking of ways to counter these guys when they line up together in the backfield. For both guys, it’s a put-up or shut-up year. For Etienne, he must prove he can stay healthy and produce as he’ll be getting his first in-game reps this season. For Trevor, the QB’s second season is crucial, if he can’t show improvement at the very least, his days of being an NFL starter will be numbered.
